New processors for iPhone 6 reportedly shipping from TSMC

Apple has reportedly started receiving shipments of processors bound for the iPhone 6 from chip-maker Taiwan Semiconductor Manucafturing Co. (TSMC). For several years, Samsung has been the exclusive provider of the chips found in Apple’s mobile devices. The problem for Apple is that Samsung is their chief smartphone rival. Diversifying their suppliers means that Apple can reduce the amount of business it does with a primary competitor, while also giving them a better position in matters such as price negotiations, according to the Wall Street Journal:

By securing an additional supplier, Apple will have more leverage when it comes to price negotiations with its chip suppliers in the future. Through the deal, TSMC adds a high-profile customer that could help support expensive research investments the manufacturer needs to move to advanced technology and will likely boost its overall revenue this year, analysts said.

TSMC is currently the world’s largest chip manufacturer by revenue, and has long been rumored to be a new potential supplier of Apple’s mobile processors.

What do you think of Apple partnering with multiple chip manufacturers? Let us know below in the comments.

The E-Label Act may rid your future gadgets of FCC logos

Let’s try something really quickly: pull your phone out, flip it over, and maybe squint at it a bit. Chances are you’ll see a series of FCC-mandated pictograms emblazoned there, little images you’ve probably never paid attention to before. If US…

Famous characters look more badass with cool beards on them

Vanja Mrgan has imagined what different famous characters would look like with beards. From Robocop to He-Man to Batman to Wario to Popeye to Porky Pig to Boba Fett to Snoo—Reddit’s alien mascot—they all look quite cool. Some even better than the real thing (like Popeye, Wario, and even Batman!)

This Was the 3D-TV Theater of the Future Before TV Even Existed

This Was the 3D-TV Theater of the Future Before TV Even Existed

Futurist-minded weirdos were dreaming up 3D movies as early as the 1910s , back when feature-length films were still in their infancy. But in 1928 the hot new techno-hype was all about television: specifically, 3D TV that people could watch in a theater. Complete with that newfangled sync-sound!

T-Mobile holding Uncarrier 5.0 event in LA

T-Mobile has setup another Uncarrier event for June 18 in Los Angeles. This will be their fifth such event, hence the name Uncarrier 5.0. Previously on the John Legere show, we’ve seen T-Mobile offer to pay your ETF from AT&T, Sprint or Verizon, Introduce their Jump! program, give everyone free international roaming and offer free LTE data for your tablet. It seems to be working for them, as they have seen actual subscriber growth and increased their revenue by almost 28-percent.

We’ve no idea what to expect in LA next month, but we hope Shikira is involved somehow.
